Iona's Lamont Jones has been chosen as the StatSheet MAAC Player of the Week for the week ending February 6th. Marist's Chavaughn Lewis has won StatSheet's MAAC Freshman of the Week. Finally, Iona's Sean Armand has received StatSheet's MAAC 6th Man of the Week.
Jones was the best in the MAAC in scoring (30.5 pts per game). He also tallied 5 rebounds per game, 60% shooting, and 4 three pointers per game. The Iona junior played well for the Gaels in wins against Canisius and Manhattan.
Jones led scoring for the Gaels with 43 points while adding 3 steals in a 105-86 win against Canisius. He then added 18 points and 6 rebounds in an 85-73 win against Manhattan.
This is the first StatSheet MAAC Player of the Week honor for Lamont Jones. However, he has received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is senior Scott Machado from Iona. Honorable mention goes to Mike Glover, a senior from Iona. George Beamon, who finished fourth, was the highest ranking player from Manhattan.
StatSheet MAAC Freshman of the Week: Marist's Chavaughn Lewis
Chavaughn Lewis averaged 28 minutes as a starter for Marist. In a 73-51 loss to Manhattan, Lewis led the Red Foxes in scoring with 11 points and added 3 assists. In an 80-69 win over Canisius, he added 15 points and 3 assists.
This is a repeat honor for Chavaughn Lewis, making it the second time he has won StatSheet MAAC Freshman of the Week. The runner-up is our own Emmy Andujar. Honorable mention goes to Ameen Tanksley from Niagara.
StatSheet MAAC 6th Man of the Week: Iona's Sean Armand
Sean Armand, a 6-3 Sophomore guard, averaged 21 minutes of action over the two games for the Gaels. In the win against Canisius, Armand put up 8 points and 3 rebounds. Then in the win over Manhattan, he racked up 14 points and 3 assists.
This is the first StatSheet MAAC 6th Man of the Week award for Sean Armand. Yvon Raymond, a junior guard from St. Peter's, is the runner up. Our own Rhamel Brown earns honorable mention. Manhattan players have been named StatSheet MAAC Player of the Week 2 times this season.
